STEM PROGRAM
The KYHS STEM Research Initiative is designed to spur student interest in science, technology,
engineering and mathematical research while equipping students with the skill set to engage in bona fide academic research.
Students who participate in an individual or group research project supervised by the KYHS STEM faculty that involves the design and implementation of a unique experiment, subsequent
analysis of the collected data, and public presentation of their work
OR
Students who choose a topic of interest, research it in the primary literature, and, under the supervision of the KYHS STEM faculty, write a formal literature review on that topic will earn a will earn:
- a $1000 tuition credit toward the following year’s tuition
- a $100 gift card to the Dairy cafe.
Students who participate in a rigorous summer program at an accredited school or university lasting a minimum of three weeks
OR
Students who participate in summer research in a university setting for a minimum of three weeks will earn:
- a $5,000 tuition credit toward the following year’s tuition.
- a $200 summer stipend for living expenses.
Students will be expected to produce a formal scientific paper, presentation, or poster describing the research they did or research skills they learned over the course of the summer. This formal demonstration of what they accomplished will be due to the STEM coordinator no later than the week we return to school from Sukkot break. Subsequently, a research colloquium will be held during the fall semester, at which all tier 3 incentive recipients will be expected to present.
Students who submit a project to and advance beyond the first round in a major national science competition (such as: Intel, ExploraVision, Regeneron, Siemens, BioGENEius Challenge, Google science fair, Breakthrough Junior Challenge, or the Junior Science and Humanities Symposium) program will earn:
- a $5,000 tuition credit toward the following year’s tuition, if they are not yet in 12th grade.
- a $1,000 cash award upon graduation from KYHS.
- a $10,000 college scholarship should they place amongst the top twenty entrants in the contest.
Students who submit a project to and place within the top ten of a major national science competition will earn:
- a $5,000 tuition credit toward the following year’s tuition, if they are not yet in 12th grade.
- a $2,000 cash award upon graduation from KYHS.
- a $20,000 college scholarship.
KYHS students who place in the top three cumulative scores of Yeshiva University’s Bronka Weintraub High School Bekiut Daf-A-Week Program, or students who place in the top five of the Chidon HaTanach national finals will receive a $10,000 graduation award toward Israel yeshiva or seminary and $1,000 graduation award for spending money in Israel. Students who place in the top three cumulative scores of Yeshiva University’s Amud-A-Week Program, will receive a $5,000 award toward Israel yeshiva or seminary and $500 graduation award for spending money in Israel.
