welcome to everyone who's joining us at home and welcome to 2 I have to correct myself it's not stacker it's a sure is and it's not doctor we've been giving you an honorary doctorate take it away give honorary sneaker as well at your convenience at rocket scientist to know everything a Friday night most of us will think of some who's a rocket scientist it'll be just as metaphor it's a genius and I'm sure what you're actually also a real living room actually what you do which is really a pretty remarkable kind of thing can you give us some video also I guess some senses what you're involved in professional gifts it's better to give than to receive so the first time in about 15 years of my career I was working on sending nice missiles to other people to two large amounts of explosives into windows and stuff like that then since about 2006 I've been working on the receiving end which is missile defense something to try to throw a missile at you what can you do to shoot down that mess off and so I've been working since then on the number of number of programs in various an engineer as a manager and most recently the last 3 or 4 years I've been doing something called system development which is understanding how we can Leverage we have to give customers what they need for instant it's a I want one of these and I want one of these you know that's not how you buy a missile you have everyone has needs everyone has missions that they need fulfilled I need to know everything that you need so that I can shape what we have to do our needs for instance Iron Dome is a system that I work with and it's a system that not everybody needs because not everybody needs to defend their cities began system high volumes of Rocket fire anybody open fire in an American city then you just build a wall and make Mexico pay for it but on the other hand if you want to use iron what happens if you need to defend a ship would it be nice if you could use something based on Iron Dome to defend the ship and lo and behold it's something we can sit and I worked on and we appreciate the system actually yesterday or 2 days ago on the internet at the Israeli Navy has declared operational Iron Dome a similar yet different system my job was to take the original system and to mold it so they would fit a different roll a different Mission I don't let's just had picking up her to know you can be speaking about tomorrow God willing the community at a greater life but you can just give us a few words for those at home were curious if people referred of iron Zone what's going for the Iron Dome defense City rocket fire turns out and sometimes they fire rockets at we have to do this we have to shoot that thing down we have to schedule it recognize what's coming as we have to recognize that it's a bad guy and it's something we don't like it's going to hit something and then we try to get in its way and we passed by the bad guy very very close to pulling down. we block the bad guy Iron Dome does Iron Dome has been used very successfully I'm since 2011 ever more successful because we're always using we called Lessons Learned in modifying always modify the software I was wondering making software changes in the performance is better than 90% we weave on the shot down more than 1,500 band Poison in combat condition was it in combat conditions and the bad guys yes he does what he can to try to break through our defenses and so we still managed to shoot the bad guy down our performance. Is there any way you could explain anything for free person like myself in those of us at home I might be watching any inside of it how do you go about constructing what are the what are the challenges that don't have to be able to come she got to pick up the band gang and you need a very very powerful radar in order to pick up the bad guy because the bad guy is very very small ASRock it's a very small some of these Rockets are about me and we have to find these rockets and we have we have to be able to pick it up on the radar far enough away that we can send up our good guy to hit the other thing is we need to have asked on the fire control system that tells are good guy where to go in the bad guy he's going over here so I need you to go over here and over here and then you going to pick up the bad guy and that's why we have to use a supercomputer to do that because all of my good guys have to one of the bad guy and that is a thing that has to go from point A to point B and has to take its own its own bomb inside of it and carry it so comes very very close to the bad guy was flying second we got to go past the bad guy and we got a blow up just at the right time at the right angle anticipate what it's going to go that's part of that part of the radar control that's part of the Fire Control P so in other words it's shooting defenseman tall to precisely the right location at the right angle but also has to know where it anticipates the other missile is also responsible for managing the intercept well beyond well that's part of your heart that's what I do I spend a lot of time explaining so I have to speak very slowly and appreciation for them the challenge will not find it so needs to be explained in a way that they can understand that the system is not even smoking mirrors they understand and are you doing this evening look up and see a map of Israel business more independent and telling me there's a group of individuals like yours you're looking at the one man show you're at your house for the government and sitting right here today together with you all this inside into not just at what you've been designing but also obviously what technologies more difficult it is to enter set and if we built a system that everything that was fired from 10 miles away miles away we have to build it to tackle the most difficult missile into layers we have different systems to handle different threats Iron Dome handles threats or coming in from about 40 miles if your shoe rocket more than 40 miles then iron domes not going to take care of it it's that's not iron domes Mission there's another system that just became operational this year whose job it is to take missiles that I earned can handle and that's called David sling Kevin Devine she looks I mean it  every acne something going in outer space David sling can hand what can because some of the stuff they're firing from Iran for instance that goes way into outer space so we have systems above Davison another layer Arrow to an arrow to handle stuff that's going already into outer space and we're building another call Daryl 3 which handle stuff that Arrow to can't even handle and of course we have the highest layer just now you have all of these layers for four layers that I earned operational Davidson just became operational April 2017 April a very famous ceremony that the Bibi Netanyahu colored his hair black take a look at the pictures they're so I'm a trip and then you about 10 years ago will come up with in about a year or so then we will have a comprehensive system which protects the state of Israel from all three now when I mean for text if I said Iron Dome shoots down about 90% I don't know anybody who's going to play Russian Roulette multiple times when each time he has a 10% chance of blowing all through is that the situation is still going to be tenuous in Israel we will have better protection than any other country in the world and that we'll come on we are to shim the next year or so you will have a fully comprehensive multi-layer missile defense system remarkable in your trunk for tomorrow is entitled into the mirror and here you are your religious individual and at the same time you are a rocket scientist you're doing kind of on both sides and you are developing individual a missile defense system cuz you're just coming to the serious or defense system there was a sense that this was it if not miraculous truly remarkable the extent of the success rate that initially when the Marion and I wonder if that was true even among I'm curious from your perspective as both a scientist and a religious individual and you see this as a remarkable Testament to Israeli technology to he's really Brazilian sand in the wheel how much of it is that how much it's worth until you see this as truly miraculous and how did those two interplay in terms of your own thinking about all the work that you were doing people looked at Iron Dome and most of the people for this is Mickey Mouse I didn't believe the system is capable of working 10% of the time and yet we doing 90% of the time so to what do we contribute our success is really to Israeli start Nation now. Or do we say you know that's another example of coffee the old semi looking for a parking space Eric Christmas in the mall and can't find the and then you look up give me the parking space I don't need money I believe that was out cuz bar who helping us I'll talk about it much more tomorrow in length but without helping Amnesia helping the scientists did it then I am done could just as easily have a 10% 6 people who don't like to hear this people like to hear that day we did it but I sincerely believe in tomorrow that without a healthy dose of fun Special Sauce that we can be in a different ship all together cuz these systems are so complex that they can break at any time so many different parts and yet we still manage to do what we do and the store until tomorrow about them about a miracle didn't think they had to do with Iron Dome about wind blowing away in a rocket that was supposed to land at Tel Aviv and Iron Dome missed and and everybody believes that that happened and people don't look at Iron Dome itself as a miracle for missing things 1967 there's a miracle in 1991 when they fired 39 scheduled Israel there's a chance there to see me you can see him I choose to see in what I do is always use the term complexity beautiful appreciate that I was thinking more broadly about your training at the scientist whether there is an analogy here to the complexity in design the complexity functioning of a human being Many religious individuals will thank you for the presence of the Divine in the incredible complexity of all the system that we have all around us that there is no guarantee that allows you to see something that you see by Iron Dome more bro really I don't see any point that I greeted that yours is a scientist to taunt me that fact serve to buttress everybody's arguments everybody will look at the facts and interpret them in a way that this is their arguments I see everything and I see you on the shin because I was taught to look for you then where is other people will see the complexity of what makes them not believe the same thing make us believe there are certain axioms which I live with that there is a God and God gave me everything I see so I choose to see God in complexity I think The Godly weather because it's a certain amount of chaos and just put it bar who lives he chooses to give her any chooses not to give rain in there for initial conditions if you never know the day that you need to know at every point in space prom at the infinite lives in that in that soon concert if your body is running on time I know that in addition to your professional work as a rocket scientist in addition to professional work in terms of knowing some who study until rougher how many inches tall.
